EDUCATION CONFERENCE

 

MHF’s Education Conference provides an opportunity for teachers, school leaders, school owners, parents, community members and leaders as well as government and policy-makers to gain fresh perspectives on pertinent educational issues from their interactions with Nigerian teachers and educational experts.

The first iteration, which heldon the 20th and 21st of April 2017 at City Hall and Meadow Hall, Lekki drew attendees from Lagos, Ogun, Delta and Anambra States, and comprised of a panel discussion, keynote address and conferences on day 1 and lifestyle sessions and mentor mentee-sessions for educators on day 2.  It was funded by various sponsors including Fidelity Bank and Chams Plc.

INSPIRATIONAL EDUCATOR AWARDS

 

The Inspirational Educators Awards (INSEA) is aimed at elevating the teaching profession and motivating school teachers and head teachers to continue to strive for excellence in their profession. The awardees emerge from a merit-based competition and are rewarded for their commitment and passion.

Winners of these prestigious awards are selected based on pre-defined criteria. The awards include the following categories:

 

  • THE INSPIRATIONAL TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

This is an annual award aimed at honouring teachers dedicated to imparting life-long learning in their students. This prestigious award recognises, rewards, and promotes excellence in teaching and advocacy for the profession.  A cash award of ₦1,000,000.00 will be given to a resourceful, caring and innovative teacher who has made an inspirational impact on his or her students and community.

 

  • THE INSPIRATIONAL SCHOOL LEADER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The influence of a leader on the overall performance of a school can either make or mar it. Improving school leadership ranks high on the list of priorities for school reform. This prestigious award recognises the importance school leaders have on our educational system. A cash award of ₦2,000,000.00 will be given to a hard-working and sacrificial school leader.

 

 

GRADUATE TEACHER TRAINEE PROGRAMME

 

THE GRADUATE TEACHER TRAINEE PROGRAMME (GTTP) IS A 3 MONTH TEACHER TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME AIMED AT PREPARING, YOUNG AND PASSIONATE, GRADUATES FOR THE CLASSROOM.  This programme is at no cost to the graduate trainees and they are given a monthly stipend for their transportation costs.

 Objectives

  • To institute professionalism in teaching by providing the required training for new entrants into the field.
  • To equip trainable young entrants into the profession with the latest developments and international best practice for effective teaching and learning.
  • To attract into the teaching profession, dynamic individuals who will acquire workplace and professional values to impact children and ultimately the nation.
  • To create an exceptional pool of teachers.

 Qualification Requirements

Applicants must

  • have a minimum of a Second Class upper (2-1) degree from a recognised institution in or outside Nigeria,
  • have completed National Youth Service Corps not more than two years ago,
  • be within 21 and 28 years of age
  • have a passion for the teaching profession
  • have proficient ICT Skills
  • have good communication and social skills.

No prior teaching experience is required

GTTP started in 2013 with huge success as the 30 trainees drawn from all over Nigeria were trained by expert international and local facilitators on 21st century best practices in teaching using hands-on methodologies. SCHOOL ADOPTION PROGRAMME

The School Adoption Programme focuses on improving the quality of education in neighbourhood public schools. Our pilot school is Ilasan Primary School, Jakande.

Some of the developmental activities aimed at improving teaching and learning outcomes at the school are:

  • Distribution of branded exercise books and stationery,
  • Distribution of teaching aids and instructional resources,
  • Training of the Ilasan Primary School teachers on best teaching practices,
  • Posting Graduate Trainees (participants of the Graduate Trainee Programme) to teach twice a week for a three (3) month period,
  • AnnualChristmas Party for Ilasan Primary School students
  • Construction of a perimeter fence.

COMMUNITY SERVICE-BASED INITIATIVES

  • FOUNDER’S DAY

Meadow Hall’s Founder’s Day is an annual event aimed at celebrating the life and work of Meadow Hall’s Founder, Mrs. Kehinde Nwani, and raising funds towards meeting the needs of underprivileged students and schools within our community. At this event, food, music, sports, and entertainment are some of the highlights of the day. Additionally, children receive cash donations and gift items. This event, also, provides an opportunity for students from Meadow Hall and Ilasan Primary School to mix and participate in various activities together.

Mentoring event on etiquette for year 6 students of Ilasan Primary School and Meadow Hall…

Lego Party where children learned how to play various Lego games…

Past participants include children from Heritage Home, Living Spring Foundation, Arrow of God Orphanage, and Ilasan Primary School.

 

FREE TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING

 

Meadow Hall Foundation recognises the need for teachers to equip learners with a wide range of skills to cope with the demands of the 21st Century. To this end, MHF offers free professional development opportunities to help update teachers with the latest evidence-based strategies in education. Empowering teachers to use these strategies to positively impact teaching and learning outcomes in the Nigerian classroom. These free workshops are offered at least once-a-year to in-service and prospective teachers.
